And The 2011 NAACP Image Award Winners Are…

By Elaine Carter

The 42nd annual NAACP Image Awards show was hosted by Holly Robinson Peete and Wayne Brady.  The show was very entertaining with a blend of music, clever comments from presenters and heartfelt remarks from award recipients.

Here is the Official NAACP Image Award Mission Statement.

“The NAACP Image Awards is the nation’s premier multi-cultural awards show celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing & directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.”

I was hoping that Tyler Perry would have been nominated for an Oscar for, For Colored Girls.   He instead had the honor of walking away with several Image Awards for the movie For Colored Girls in the categories of: Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture (Theatrical or Television) and Kimberly Elise for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.

A personal shout out to my Screenwriting mentor, Michael Elliot (Mentor Mike) for his Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture (Theatrical or Television) for the movie, Just Wright Wooo Hooo!

Congratulations to all who have won!

Here is the complete list of winners for the 2011 NAACP Image Awards.
