"Florida radio guy calls earthquake deaths "a good thing.""

Popular Florida shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge is in a bit of hot water over some outrageous comments he made on Twitter and his radio show concerning the earthquake tragedy in Haiti.

The trouble for Bubba started last Thursday when he Twittered: "I say f–k Haiti. Why do we have to take care of everybody our country is in shambles." Bubba."

The Tampa-based host, who is broadcast on 93 Rock here in Miami as well as several other stations and Sirius Satellite Radio, didn’t make things better when he took to the airwaves later in the day.

The <a class="informTopicLink" title="Tampa" href=”https://t make things better when he took to the airwaves later in the day.

"You know what, maybe this is actually a good thing," he said on his radio show. "Here”s the thing, we would all agree that Haiti is just in shambles, it’s just a horrible country, it’s just dirt, it’s poverty stricken, they need a cleansing, maybe a half a million Haitians that will end up not being around tomorrow…It’s a cleanse."

Possibly sensing the backlash, Bubba later posted this statement:

"I am going to say this one time and one time only. First of all, a real man sometimes has to take a step back and maybe look at something they said or did. So that being said I would like to apologize for my comments regarding Haiti. In the world of live radio that I operate sometimes you say things that you can’t take back. So I am man enough now to say I am sorry for those I offended."

93 Rock GM Brian Elam said the comments don’t refelct the opinion or values of the station, and that they’ve been holding drives for Haiti since the tragedy happened and will continue to do so.
