Two men were stabbed to death on a downtown No. 2 train early Sunday, police said.

Police responded to 911 calls just after 5 a.m. At the Varick Street train station in Manhattan.  Upon arrival, they found three people stabbed on the Brooklyn-bound train.

The three male victims were were between the ages of 23 and 24-year-old and were stabbed multiple times in the torso. The victims were sent to St. Vincent’s Hospital where  two of the men were pronounced dead.

The third victim, identified as a 23-year-old man, suffered stab wounds to the arm and neck and is in stable condition at St. Vincent’s.

Police say the victims were part of a group of as many as 10 people who got on the train at 42nd Street. At some point, a fight apparently broke out with another group. Police say that group was armed, and the suspects jumped off the train at the Christopher Street station.

Police are investigating, and officials say they are talking with two people who may be suspects. No weapons have been recovered.
