Last night, screams from Mariah during her contractions were heard around the world. It was a false alarm, as Nick and Mariah’s twins have yet to be welcomed into the world, however, we all wait with eager anticipation to the birth of the new multiracial babies! You see, this is what America will look like.
It’s the dawn of a new America. An astonishing New York Times article reports that the face of the United States is changing, we really are “the melting pot” we always perceived ourselves to be. According to the new U.S. census, the multiracial population has increased almost 50 percent, to 4.2 million since 2000.
The number of people who identify themselves as both white and black has risen by 134 percent to 1.8 million people. What’s even more interesting is that the multiracial population is overwhelmingly young and the most common racial combination is white and black. The data confirms what we already knew, not only Americans, but the world, is moving forward in a new direction, realizing their aspirational dreams for the negation of color lines.
“I think this marks a truly profound shift in the way Americans, particularly African-Americans, think about race and about their heritage,” said C. Matthew Snipp, a professor in the sociology department at Stanford University.
We here at GlobalGrind support this new multicultural world. The very face of America was and is changing, we see it in ourselves and the people we interact with everyday. These statistics only confirm what we already knew, color lines are ties that bind and constrict us and we’ve been over that oppression for a long time now.
