As an aspiring model and a person interested in the fashion industry, it goes without saying that I absolutely love and appreciate fashion and TRUE style. I can’t really explain to you what my “style” is. Sometimes it’s mod or edgy. Sometimes it’s trendy, or urban. It could be flirty and girly one day, and a little boyish the next. But every outfit that I put on, and how much effort I put into my “style” for that day, like artwork, is a small depiction of who I am. I’m open-minded and willing to try new things not just with my clothes, but in life.

Don’t get me wrong. As fashionable as I might secretly think I am, I have had a bunch of fashion faux pas in my past, and probably a few more to come. My parents used to warn and beg me not to go out in the city in certain outfits. I’ve put together outfits that have made my friends cringe. I have a bad habit of thinking I can pull anything off and I’m known for defiantly using the “But it’s vintage!” as an excuse many a times in response to disapproving looks. Only later, and when I mean later, I mean months and years later, do I realize how ridiculous I might have looked. (i.e. “Why did I wear that ?!” *embarrassed groan*)

Despite possible fashion catastrophes, I LOVE to experiment. On a recent trip back to my hometown, my friend and I spotted a hilarious picture of my grandfather in a COOGI sweater that my grandmother had bought him on a trip to Australia. I snickered at the ridiculous multi-color “Bill Cosby sweater” souvenir, (as my friend would call it), but when I randomly found it hidden in a closet, I got ideas. Shameful, haunting ideas of turning this Bill Cosby COOGI sweater into a fashion-do, even though as it was hanging up in that closet, it was looking like a humongous, frumpy DON’T.

I couldn’t let it go. I had to do it. At least try. And with a belt, some heels, and a little fierce determination, I attempted to turn this oversized COOGI sweater into something fashionable…

Needless to say, it wasn’t a huge success (My whole family laughed at my impromptu photoshoot). I’m not sure if I could picture myself roaming the streets with this COOGI sweater turned dress on, but it was definitely worth the try – and incredibly fun! Who doesn’t enjoy playing dress up?

So sure, there might be nothing COOL-GI about my grandfather’s COOGI sweater, but I pat myself on the back for trying. What’s fashion without experimenting and trying new things? What would the fashion world be if we all played it safe? (Lady Gaga would not exist).

If I could give any fashion advice, it would be to EXPERIMENT and have fun with your style. You may faux pas it up until you polish and reach the most confident and fashionable you, but it’s worth it :). All you need is some confidence (one size fits all) and maybe a pair of killer heels! Now that’s a fashion-DO.

(PS. Out of this whole ordeal, I DID find his awesome Veteran’s hat from the Korean War. No one can tell me that’s not REAL Vintage ;)!)
