Make exercise fun!

I am preparing to go to the Essence festival to judge a step contest. It got me thinking about how you can make exercise fun. Dancing, stepping, even playing with your kids outside can all be forms of exercise.  For me making exercise fun is the best way to add physical activity to your lifestyle. I love dancing and that’s always been my activity of choice.

I am not a fan of jogging at all, certainly not running in circles on a treadmill,  but I can put on some music and dance for hours and not even think about it.

When the weather is nice, seeing some beautiful scenery can help a lot also.  I have been known to hike up Stone Mountain from time to time but again the scenery is amazing and you can get caught up in the scenery and forget that you’re exercising.

The real key to successfully adding exercise to your lifestyle is getting your mind right. Cut out pictures of your goal be that pictures of you at your goal weight or perhaps pictures of what you would like your body to look like once you reach your goal. Post their pictures around the house so you can use them as motivation to keep pushing towards your goal.  Even the most focused person has to find a way to keep themselves motivated. Set short term goals and reward yourself for achieving them.

If you find some physical activity you love and get started, soon exercising will become a habit. You’ll be able to feel how much better your body feels when you’re moving and getting your heart rate up on a daily basis.  I think we sometimes forget that the biggest perk to exercising is not looking great.  This is about more than just looking good on the outside.  As we get older we realize how much our bodies need exercise to stay strong and healthy. Overall you want to live a long healthy life so you can truly enjoy your loved ones and everything else life has to offer.
