Physalia is a new type of mammal, one that is completely man-made and at perfect harmony with nature.  Shaped like a whale, this floating island purifies water as it drifts through rivers and reduces water pollution through its specialized high tech bio-filtration system.   Vincent Callebaut Architects have taken on the challenge in this revolutionary product that will attempt to tackle a major environmental issue of clean energy.

The most notable feature of Physalia is that this entity will be entirely energy independent, the curvaceous buoyant beauty will be cruising along the rivers in Europe operating purely on natural energy.  The roof is housed with solar cells and a thin film of a double pneumatic membrane that will allow it to produce more energy than it consumes.

This eco-friendly project is a welcome alien into the modern consumer society where too much is being consumed and going to waste.  Hydro-turbines will propel the boat/garden from underneath making this floating park’s energy 100% renewable.  Physalia is also able to filter contaminants from the water thereby reducing pollutants from the environments that it passes through.

Physalia will house four internal gardens themed appropriately ‘Water’, ‘Earth’, ‘Fire’, ‘Air’.  The waters of Seine, Thames, Volga, Danube, Escaut will be graced with this earth-friendly gift as it travels through the continents.
