Take a moment and imagine if the next homeless person you walk past on the street becomes a celeb. Yeah… It can happen.

It’s no surprise that celebrities struggled to achieve amazing careers. But some of the most successful celebs found themselves at one point or another past broke.

J.Lo’s recent interview with W Magazine revealed that she was homeless at the age of 18. In light of the “Hit The Floor” singer’s revelation, we decided to compile a list of celebs that have found themselves in the homeless category. Keep this post in mind the next time you think celebs don’t know what it’s like for normal people like me and you.

J.Lo revealed that her parents were not pleased with her career choice.

“My mom and I butted heads. I didn’t want to go to college – I wanted to try dance full-time. I was homeless,” Lopez said.

Halle Berry revealed to Readers Digest her early struggles of being homeless.

“I was probably about 21. But a girl had to do what a girl had to do. You can do that when you’re 21 and ambitious, and your eyes are this big and you don’t want to go home.”

Funnyman Jim Carrey was said to be homeless in his IMDB biography.

“The whole family took security and janitorial jobs in the Titan Wheels factory, Jim working 8-hour shifts after school let out. When they finally deserted the factory, the family lived out of a Volkswagen camper van until they could return to Toronto.”

Tyler Perry revealed to his close friend Oprah the hardships he endured:

I was carrying a lot of frustration, I was homeless, and I had just scraped together enough money for this pay-by-the-week hotel that was full of crackheads.”

Dijmon Hounsou reflected briefly in a CNN interview about his life as a child:

“I spent a lot of time at night navigating the streets of Paris trying to find something to eat.”

Jewel recalled her life before stardom on the TODAY Show:

I ended up homeless because my boss propositioned me and when I wouldn’t sleep with him he didn’t give me my paycheck. I got kicked out of where I was living my rent was due that next day.”

Daniel Craig‘s life was put on display in his biography by Sarah Marshall:

“After years of failed auditions he found himself sleeping on a park bench for many nights.” 

Pain and Gain star The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, shared the reason why he bulked up in a short documentary:

“Me and my mom came home one time and there was an eviction notice on the door. I’ll never forget the look on my mom’s face immediately crying and yet still trying to be strong in front of her son.”

Avatar actor Sam Worthington admitted in a Men’s Health Magazine that he was homeless and living in his car before landing his breakout role: 

“I was given an opportunity and I cherished it.”

Baltimore Raven Michael Oher, whose life inspired the movie The Blind Side, discussed his troubling childhood in his book I Beat The Odds.

“If you know where your next meal is coming from, you are not poor.”
