Talk about a slap in the face!

The Massachusetts State Police photographer who released the graphic behind-the-scenes photos of the Boston Marathon bombing manhunt thought he was showing America the true face of terror – not the dolled up Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the front of Rolling Stone magazine.

But his fellow police officers weren’t too happy with the release of the never-before-seen photographs, saying that Sgt. Sean Murphy didn’t get approval for the photos’ release.

The aftermath? Murphy was relieved of duty for one day and is now the subject of an internal investigation. According to Dave Procopio, a state police spokesman, Murphy’s duty status will be determined at a hearing next week.

Murphy said he decided to release the pictures because he was enraged by the cover of this month’s controversial issue of Rolling Stone, which features an image of the younger Tsarnaev brother taken from a social media site. The magazine has since received backlash from readers saying that the issue is glamorizing the bombing suspect.

“As a professional law-enforcement officer of 25 years, I believe that the image that was portrayed by Rolling Stone magazine was an insult to any person who has every worn a uniform of any color or any police organization or military branch, and the family members who have ever lost a loved one serving in the line of duty,” he said in a statement, according to Boston Magazine.
