When looking back at the careers of people like Diddy, or the founders of Instagram, people tend to call them lucky. They always say: “So and so is lucky. They wouldn’t have made it without it. I am not lucky.” That cop-out irks us big time. Don’t you hate that line? I can’t front, I have also done that before. I would stand in front of the mirror asking why I wasn’t so lucky, until I realized I could create my own “luck.” Yup. It’s possible.
This week on The Phat Startup Show, we sat down with one seriously “lucky” dude named Antonio Neves. I call Antonio lucky, but in reality he wasn’t lucky, he was prepared for opportunities that came his way and he reached out to get it. That my people, is how you get lucky. Antonio is an entrepreneur, public speaker, author and a professional question ask-er. He also helps entrepreneurs shine and take it to the next level with his projects The Ignition Lab and THINQACTION.
Antonio has worked with some of the top brands in the world, but it wasn’t that way all the time. Antonio was born and raised in a small town in Michigan where people wouldn’t take that leap of faith. His first goal was to make sure he was the first person in his family to get his college degree. His college experience would open up the world to him since all he knew at the time was his town. Like many, that first experience out of the hood changed the way he saw things forever. He knew there was more out there and was going to explore it to the fullest. This was evident when he moved to NYC with $600 to his name, no job, and no social media to connect with folks. As he put it, “with a story like that, on paper, dude shouldn’t be here right now.”
Antonio hooked us up big time! He has a framework that he likes to follow to make sure he is always striving for that lucky opportunity. Antonio walks us through his steps (listed below) in a way that will get your mind right and motivate anyone. After hearing his examples for each, and how they relate to business and Hip Hop, I guarantee you will see luck in a different way. No more excuses. It is time to #bossup. Create your own luck. Antonio tells us how perfectly.
