In the wake of Trayvon Martin’s tragic death, the NAACP has proposed a set of laws called Trayvon’s Law.

This set of bills is designed to ensure no parent has to endure what Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin have had to ever again.

One of the main goals is to end racial profiling. The bill outlines an eight-fold procedure for eradicating the discriminatory practice. Among the steps are mandating improved training, data collection on homicides involving people of color, and a ban on racial profiling. Additionally, it works to authorize the government to provide grants for model policies and best practices for neighborhood watch groups and law enforcement.

The bills aim to repeal laws similar to stand your ground, and enact policies like duty to retreat and eliminate automatic immunity. It also pushes to enforce better police oversight to ensure law enforcement accountability. Through civilian review boards, police brutality and abuse of power can be monitored and discussed.

It is being pushed on the federal, state, and local levels. Click here to read through Trayvon’s Law.

The NAACP is working hard to pass Trayvon’s Law. Let’s hope they succeed.
