A mother of four and her fiance have been charged with capital murder for beating her 5-year-old son to death with a belt – all because he wet his pants.
India Kimble, 28, and Vonta McClellan, 26, both were arrested Tuesday and charged with killing 5-year-old Gregory Caver.
Local authorities say they responded to a report of a child having difficulty breathing and the toddler was later pronounced dead at a hospital in Birmingham. Autopsy showed that Gregory Caver, 5, was beaten with a belt severely enough to cause blunt force trauma, and eventually death.
Department of Human Resources officials say they had a follow-up on this family previously and found that another child, McClellan’s daughter, had also been abused.
Investigators say when they spoke to the mother and told her that her daughter needed to be examined by a physician, she fled along with the other children and was later arrested.
