Last night, Somewhereinamerica, Jay Z and Dame Dash made amends!

After almost ten years of being disconnected since the two went their separate Rocafella ways, Hov and Dame finally reunited and made a moment hip-hop fans have only hoped and dreamed they would live to see become a reality.

But I have to say, I felt it was coming. Both Jay and Dame very recently seemed to be at peace with their pasts, not holding any grudges or bad blood for one another. The former Rocafella, fuck-this-Def-Jam-meeting man made the first move, showing his maturity by bigging up Jay’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album on Instagram while playing it at the barbershop, saying:

In the barber shop listening to jays new album….I can’t front… I still like hearing him pop shit cause I know he’s telling the truth…proud to be be a part of that..#bittersweet

And soon after, when Jay made a stop by the Angie Martinez show about a month ago, it was clear there’s still love there. He told Ang:

The thing we built, you can’t take that away so no matter what, the love is still there. Because what we’ve done will forever be stamped in history… We created something that’s gonna go down forever. So I can only have love for Dame.

There’s something significant to be learned from Jay and Dame’s reunion. So what page can you take from their reunion notebook? Well…

You MUST find a peace of mind with your past, accept it, and let go. This reconciliation could not have happened if both Dame and Jay didn’t truly accept and forgive each other for things going sour. Like Jigga said, when you build something so grand with someone, how can you look or think of that person and feel anger or hate? At one point things were beautiful between the two, something worked, something clicked to create the movement that was Rocafella records and immense moments in hip-hop history. There’s no way it is healthy to use any of your energy to hate or hold on to a grudge against anyone, especially when they were once apart of creating something that gave you some type of joy at one point.

To get very cheesy Tumblr quote on you guys:

“Never regret anything, because at one point it was exactly what you wanted”

If there’s ex boy/girlfriends you felt did you wrong, friends or family you feel didn’t have your back, colleagues you think completely screwed you over or anything of the sort, find peace or it will harbor you.

Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to dial up the person you’ve had beef with right now, kiss and make up. Maybe the timing isn’t right or maybe you both haven’t had that moment of clarity. It takes two to tango in this dance called making amends, and for each person to have reached an assurance of who they individually are. But you can personally LET IT GO. Life is about making mistakes, and going through experiences that teach you more about yourself and what you want for your life. You can’t possibly have animosity for the person who got you there and you don’t necessarily need to be besties, just don’t be petty. Get your growth on, life’s too short.
