Eighteen-year-old Israel Hernandez was fatally tasered by a police officer on Tuesday after the officer found him tagging a building.

“I just can’t believe it,” says best friend Rafael Lynch, close to tears. “I still have his hat and his board. They still smell like him. It’s crazy.”

Hernandez and Lynch often hung out with one another, as they were big on the skateboarding scene in Sunny Isles, Miami.

“This dude wasn’t a regular dude,” Lynch stated. “He wasn’t into partying… I’ve seen him drink a beer in the past but nothing to get fucked up…I loved this person. He was very different. He had a passion for skating and art and many other things. He taught me a lot.”

Lynch revealed that Hernandez was an immigrant from Colombia and had just recently received his papers.

After the incident, the MBPD later confirmed that Hernandez did indeed die from being tasered by a cop. Read the statement here.

Our prayers are with Hernandez’s friends and family.
