The PS4 finally has a launch date!

Sony announced on Tuesday that their next generation console has over 1 million pre-orders heading into the Holiday season. Building off their outstanding reception at E3, Sony took control of the console wars by also announcing the launch date of the PS4. Something Microsoft failed to do at their Gamescom press conference.

Sony officially confirmed that the PS4 will be launching in North America on November 15th, and launching in Europe and Latin America on November 29th. Praise Odin’s raven!

If you missed the Sony press conference at Gamescom 2013, let me sum it up for you: indie, indie, indie. Sony came out with an impressive array of indie games as they attempted to push their platform as the “indie game console.”

Combining cross promotion from their PS Vita (which got a price drop to $199 from $299), Sony was really pushing the indie developer market hard. As indie games become increasingly cheaper and easier to produce, we’ve seen many shape the market place. It’s obvious that Sony is betting on this market to grow, and that is a great sign for the industry.

Sony stated on Tuesday:

We are proud of our relationships with game creators and pleased to be working with nearly 620 developers and publishers from around the world.

Sony is in prime position as November approaches, and look for it to be the dominant console this holiday season.
