How do you build a technology enabled business for less than $1K? You learn how to code! Don’t want to learn how to code? Then use other platforms that you can test your idea with.

This week on The Phat Startup Show, we sat down with Michael Karnjanaprakorn, CEO and Co-founder of the educational company Skillshare. Mike learned how to test his idea with another platform, saving him some serious paper. Here he tells us how we can do the same.

Mike is an entrepreneur who has spoken at events like Big Omaha, and even threw his own educational conference in NYC. By the way, the conference was off the hook. We should petition Mike to hold another one.

Mike grew up in Virginia and bleeds hip-hop. He helped us out at our MICK event and his company even has Young Guru teaching on its platform. Besides hooking us up with some of the lessons he has gathered from the culture, Mike also filled us in on why he would love to sit down with Pharrell; the Noreaga “Super Thug” beat was extremely influential to his life.

Mike dives in on how to build a business without dumping a whole bunch of cash down the drain. He talks about validating your ideas by testing a small niche audience, and then putting your foot on the gas once you see that a market exists for your idea. This helps reduce the risk of a lost venture, as well as makes the initial capital more cost efficient.

We also covered how to treat your initial customers and why they are so important to your business development.

The way Mike used Young Jeezy as his example on validating ideas will spark a plug. So, grab a pen and paper, and take note.
