Sadly, the Jersey Shore can’t catch a break.

Yesterday, more than 400 firefighters worked for hours to control a massive 10-alarm fire, which started at a Kohr Brothers Frozen Custard stand around 2:15 PM and went on to ravage more than 80 percent of the Seaside Park boardwalk.

The fire destroyed Seaside Park boardwalk and several buildings, gutting all 32 businesses. A number of firefighters sustained minor injuries.

Seaside Park Business Administrator Robert Martucci stated:

“This is like a sucker punch…An unbelievable effort was made so that this town can come back. But for this to happen now is just inconceivable.”

As he raced to the scene, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie added:

“I feel like I want to throw up.”

Fanned by winds topping 30 mph, fire quickly spread north to the boardwalk in neighboring Seaside Heights. It was hours before relief from the flames came. Smoke could still be seen billowing until rain hit a little after midnight.
