Yesterday, we learned that the undercover cop who participated in the assault during the now infamous NYC Range Rover/biker brawl was arrested.

Now, sources say that Detective Wojciech Braszczok may have gone “rogue” after spending too much time undercover. In other words, he became so immersed in his cover story, he forgot who he really was.

According to DNA Info:

“Sometimes an undercover spends too much time in a role, becomes the character and forgets what side of the law he is on,” said a source familiar with the case.

But Braszczok says that’s just not true.

Braszczok’s alleged role in the motorcycle clash surfaced several days after the Sept. 29 incident when he finally told the NYPD he was among the mass motorcycle ride, but took no action to help Alexian Lien, who was beaten by riders. He claimed he did not want to compromise his undercover status and had arrived at the beat down just as it was ending.

His claims, however, will have to stand up to the video of the brutal assault on Lien. And it’s not looking good. The video captured Braszczok at the crime scene slamming his fist against the rear window of Lien’s Range Rover and kicking the side of the vehicle.

Braszczok, who was working inside the NYPD’s Organized Crime Intelligence Division and may have been riding with the bikers partly to find another long-term undercover project for the NYPD, has now been formally suspended from the force.

Police have also arrested a seventh person in connection with the attack. Stay tuned.
