Once we get past the issue of how the government shutdown was poorly handled by a minority of Republicans, we can see that perhaps Republicans have a valid point about a flawed law that is having a dubious beginning thus far.

Sometimes the height of hypocrisy comes when the chosen purport a sense of arrogance with their actions out of a self-absorbed sense of nobility.

What do I mean?

Look no further than the political landscape and the stalemate coming out of Washington, DC.

Again.

America finds itself at the brink of default and in the crosshairs of economic winds of change globally because the two sides of our political system cannot admit to the errors of their ways.

Despite the on-going self-repeal of the Affordable Care Act, the growing opposition to this legislation from former political allies, the still-weak economy, and the failures during the rollout of Obamacare so far, the Obama Administration refuses to consider delaying one of the most controversial, misunderstood, and partisan bills ever passed in American history. To the president and his staunch allies, this legislation is not a matter of efficiency, reliability, or prosperity for the American people – it is a matter of presidential legacy for a man whose promise of hope has become more fleeting as the days pass.

And despite the congressional numbers, poll numbers, election losses, and national viewpoint on our brand, some within the Republican Party have decided to hunker down and continue the fight against Obamacare. In the process, they have – far too often -given the image of opposing the president because of the man that he is versus just opposing his politics and policies. Now, for the third time in as many years, the Republicans are in a political fight where their ultimate objective is apparently unattainable at this time, the opportunity for methodical wins are overlooked during the process, and everyday Americans have continued struggling in the meanwhile.

All of this – or, at the very least, a LOT of this – has come due to partisan arrogance parading around as political nobility for the sake of the American people. This – of course – all while many in Washington are acting like royalty detached from the rest of America, instead of acting as humble, servant-leaders.

Despite knowing that both sides have major flaws in their arguments and actions over the past few years, both sides continue to double down, just as Americans are trying to ride a double dip of a sluggish economy. At some point, leaders understand that the people that they represent means more than the parties that they represent or the goals that they pursue individually. At some point in time, both sides of the political aisle will understand on a regular basis that political battles are only good if they yield societal wins for the American people. Lately, that focus is more of a pipe dream than a political desire for many of the major players in Washington, a trait highlighted when times of crisis come about such those we face with the government shutdown and the debt ceiling deadline.

Perhaps there is a reason why 60% of Americans polled believe we should throw all 535 members of Congress out of office in 2014. Perhaps there is a reason why some nations around the world feel as though America lost its credibility as the economic superpower in the global community.

And perhaps we have a lot to think when it comes to picking our next representatives in Washington when we vote again in the upcoming elections.
