President Obama’s plea to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act in Congress seems to be working. The Senate advanced the legislation with a 61-30 vote on Monday in what the president is calling “a return to common sense.” The ENDA forbids employers from firing workers based on sexual orientation and gender identity, but it might face an uphill battle in the Republican-controlled House — House Speaker John Boehner is reportedly NOT a fan of the measure. A new study is suggesting that White American gun owners are more likely to be racist. The study shows that supporters of legislation to carry concealed weapons are also more likely to be discriminatory. For each one-point increase in anti-black racism (called symbolic racism), the odds of having a gun in the home jumped 50 percent. DMX has been arrested…again. The rapper, real name Earl Simmons, was arrested outside a South Carolina airport on Monday for driving with a suspended license and without a vehicle tag and insurance. He was held for several hours before posting a $1,335 bond. [HuffPost]
Relatives of a Missouri man are saying he was repeatedly Tasered by police after trying to save his 3-year-old son from a burning home. Ryan and Cathy Miller awoke to find smoke in their home. They were able to escape through a rear door and call 911 but Riley Miller, the 3-year-old, was still inside. After attempting to save his son, police subdued Ryan with the stun gun. The toddler was later pronounced dead from injuries he sustained in the fire. [RawStory]
