A Russian performance artist who once stitched his lips together to protest the jailing of two members of Pussy Riot members had the balls to make a bold stand against Russia in the middle of Moscow’s Red Square.
Pyotr Pavlensky stripped naked and nailed his testicles to the cobblestone on Russia’s national Police Day holiday to protest Russia’s “police state.”
Yep, that happened.
Police covered the naked Pavlensky with a blanket and helped him detach his testicles from the pavement. He was given medical attention before being taken into custody.
Before the shocking demonstration, the Saint Petersburg-based artist said this in a statement posted on Grani.ru.
“A naked artist, looking at his balls nailed to the Kremlin pavement, is a metaphor for the apathy, political indifference, and fatalism of contemporary Russian society.”
