A 23-year-old Chicago cab driver is in jail after he allegedly sexually assaulted a Halloween reveler who fell asleep in his cab on Nov. 1.
Tajamul Hussain Syed, a driver for 303 Taxi, now faces a criminal sexual assault charge and is being held on $250,000 bail.
According to the Chicago Tribune, he picked the woman up in the 8300 block of West Summerdale Avenue the evening after Halloween day. Prosecutors say the passenger fell asleep shortly after her friend helped her into Sved’s taxi.
When she awoke in the cab, her pants were down and Syed was sexually assaulting her. Assistant State’s Attorney Jacqueline Kwilos said the woman pushed him off and Syed got back in the driver’s seat. After he stopped the cab, she got out and ran home.
Syed, of the 6300 block of North Rockwell Street, was arrested while driving his cab in Evanston on Thursday. The taxi was impounded for further examination, court records show.
He’s due back in court on Thursday.
