The bossman Russell Simmons and Oscar-nominated Boyz n the Hood writer, producer and director John Singleton are teaming up to bring a Miami-themed club drama to HBO.

The show, titled Club Life: Miami, is set in none other than South Beach. It will follow a former criminal on his road to redemption, as well as his move to Miami as he learns to embrace his surroundings and use that energy to his benefit.

Club Life: Miami will be written by Singleton. He and Simmons will co-executive produce the drama together.

This is Russell’s second sale at HBO. Simmons recently set up another drama with 12 Years a Slave’s Steve McQueen and World War Z writer Matthew Michael Carnahan. The show, though it remains untitled, is said to be about a young black man experiencing life among New York’s high society.

Though Singleton is best known for his work on Boyz n the Hood, he’s got a lot of other major projects under his belt. He’s worked on Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Baby Boy and Four Brothers.

Congrats to the businessmen!
