A pair of glasses may have saved a Seattle teenager’s life after suspects opened fire on her home Saturday night.

Alonza Bryant, 16, was asleep on the couch in her parents’ living room when the shooting occurred. Authorities say the bullet struck the bridge of her glasses and apparently deflected away. The glasses broke, but the girl was not seriously injured.

Several people, including children, were in the house at the time, but no one else was injured inside the residence at 54th Avenue South and South Roxbury Street.

Alonza was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She’s expected to recover.

“I fell asleep with my glasses on,” Alonza Bryant told NWCN.com. “If I didn’t have my glasses on I wouldn’t be here.”

Authorities believe the teenager was not the intended victim. Gang detectives are investigating, although Alonza’s mother insists that the family has no connections.

“We are honest, upright citizens. We don’t do anything – harm – to anyone in this neighborhood,” LaVette Bryant said.

We’re praying for Alonza’s speedy recovery.
