After an intense battle to keep Jahi McMath on life support after she suffered brain damage from a routine tonsil surgery, the Children’s Hospital in Oakland is finally allowing her family to move her to a undisclosed location.
The hospital reached an agreement with the family on Friday that will allow a critical care team to enter the hospital to move the girl.
However, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo refused the family’s request to require doctors from the hospital or an outside physician to insert a feeding tube and a tracheostomy tube on Jahi.
Hospital attorney Douglas Straus told the judge the hospital would not allow any doctor to perform procedures on a deceased human being.
That means that Jahi can be moved while on a ventilator, but her family has to take full responsibility for any errors that may occur during the move. According to the hospital, there is a possibility that her heart may stop.
Grillo refused the family’s request to require doctors from the hospital or an outside physician to insert a feeding tube and a tracheostomy tube on Jahi.
Christopher Dolan, attorney for Jahi’s family, said the agreement removes the impediments the family faced in wanting to move the girl out of the hospital.
Details about where or when Jahi will be moved were not discussed in the agreement.
