Some of the best hip-hop of all time has been rude, crude and just downright vulgar.

And it sounds great.

That is, however, until the radio gets their hands on the track. You see, there’s an organization called the FCC: when dealing with radio, the job of the FCC is to make sure no curses are heard over the air.

This kinda sucks for hip-hop music, because 80 percent of rap is using colorful language. So terrible radio edits have killed many songs: the latest example happened this year, with Young Dro’s minor hit “FDB.” The track was only a minor hit because the song’s chorus, “fuck that bitch,” was changed to “forget that chick,” which just fucking sucks.

There have been many more examples of this, of course: and here are the 12 that stand out the most.

1. NWA “F*CK the Police”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: The chorus has Easy-E repeating, “fuck the police.” This is pretty impossible to say on the radio.

2. Wu-Tang Clan “Shame on a Nuh”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: On the track’s chorus, the word “nigga” is replaced with “nuh,” which makes no sense, nuhs

3. Notorious B.I.G. & R. Kelly “Loving You Tonight”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: Biggie’s hyper-sexualized track got turned into something totally different when “fucking you” was turned into “loving you.”

4. Jay Z “Jigga”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: On the song’s chorus, rolling with “my nigga” was changed to the more direct “Jigga.” Definitely not as catchy.

5. DMX “Get At Me Dog”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: All the “niggas” in the song’s chorus are replaced by various noises, like gunshots and dog barks.

6. Dr. Dre, Hittman, Kurupt, Nate Dogg & Six Two “Xxplosive”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: Kurupt’s iconic verse is completely erased from the song.

7. Eminem “The Way I Am”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: Whole blotches of Eminem’s second verse are completely inaudible.

8. Waka Flocka Flame “Hard in the Paint”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: This song doesn’t work AT ALL without the curses. You literally hear, like, three words.

9. Trinidad Jame$ “All Gold Everything”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: “Don’t believe me just watch, nigga nigga nigga” is the best part of the song. Radio edits ruin it.

10. Kendrick Lamar “Backseat Freestyle”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: “God… I got ichs” just doesn’t really work.

11. A$AP Rocky, Drake, Kendrick Lamar & 2 Chainz “F*ckin Problems”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: The song’s chorus — “I love bad bitches that’s my fucking problem” — is complete gibberish on the radio-friendly version of the song, which is a shame cause the hook is the best part of the track.

12. YG, Young Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan “My Hittaz”

Part of the song that is butchered the most: The song is an ode to friends. It’s called “My Nigga.” No one in the history of the world has ever called their friend “hitter.”
