What started off as a small joke is now the center of a huge controversy.

The Wisconsin National Honor Guard is under fire after a photo the group took at a funeral went viral. The group, acting as pallbearers for the funeral, honor a fallen hero in the picture (complete with funny faces and pop culture poses) with the caption:

“We put the FUN in funeral-your fearless honor guard from various states.”

Another photo reads:

“It’s so damn cold out. Why have a funeral outside? Somebody’s getting a jacked up flag.”

The woman who uploaded the picture has been sent death threats, but has since taken the picture down. Although the casket was empty in the photos, the public is still upset over the lack of respect the guards show for another solider.

The Honor Guard released a statement following the ordeal, claiming that the members have all been removed from the Honor Guard Unit.

The guard released a statement to WISN 12 News saying in part, “The Wisconsin National Guard takes our responsibilities for our fallen soldiers and veterans very seriously. We expect all soldiers who carry out this detail to handle it with professionalism and honor.”

The Honor Guard Unit will be replaced with other members of the National Guard, but as the investigation continues, the members remain employed with the Guard.
