Miami Dolphins player Don Jones has been suspended and fined after comments he made via Twitter. Following a video of gay football player Michael Sam kissing his partner after receiving news that he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, the Dolphins safety tweeted “horrible” and “omg” when the kiss aired on ESPN. Jones has apologized for the tweets, as has team coach Joe Philbin. [Huff Post]

One man has died after a group of gunmen fired shots at a children’s birthday party in Sacramento, CA over the weekend. Six others were injured during the child’s b-day celebration. Police suspect gang-related activity was the cause of the shooting. [Gawker]

Fox News mocked the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag during “Fox News Sunday.” During the segment, the panel bashed the hashtag, failing to see the importance social media has had on the story. #BringBackOurGirls stems from the 276 girls kidnapped in Nigeria by Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist group. The kidnapping made headlines recently, but was highlighted by social media back in April. [Huff Post]

Apparently if a tree falls on a cop, you can walk away from a ticket. An Iowa police officer was hit by a 30-foot-tree while giving a driver a ticket. Officer Jeremy Veach walked away injury free from the incident. As for the driver? His car was damaged, but he didn’t get that ticket. [Gawker]
