george zimmerman in court 2013

It’s true. George Zimmerman is around guns. Again.

According to a local police report, Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted in the killing of an unarmed Trayvon Martin in 2013, is now volunteering as a security officer in a gun and motorcycle store in Florida.

And because it’s volunteering, he’s not getting one red cent. Which means he’s doing it for fun.

We know how this volunteer thing ended up last time.

From Mashable:

After midnight on Sunday night, a police officer in DeLand, Florida, found Zimmerman inside Pompano Pat‘s, a firearms, ammunition and motorcycles store. Zimmerman told the officer that “he was watching the business due to a recent burglary” and that his friend, the store’s owner, Pat Johnson, had asked him to do that, according to the DeLand police report seen by Mashable.

Pomano Pat’s is the same store that offered Zimmerman a free gun after his high-profile trial in July of 2013.

Johnson told WKMG Local 6 that Zimmerman has been “patrolling” the store but that he’s not been hired. Sam Porter, an employee at the store, confirmed to Mashable that Zimmerman is not an employee and he’s not being paid, reading a statement from Johnson.

But in an interview with USA Today, Porter also said that Johnson never asked Zimmerman to sit outside of the business.

Zimmerman playing rent-a-cop in general? Bad idea. Zimmerman playing rent-a-cop at a business without permission? Do we see now that his para-military aspirations are problematic?
