French Montana loves the queens — or that’s what he wanted people to know on The Breakfast Club radio show recently.
The rapper tried to clear the air following a wave of backlash when he called a Black woman a “musty crusty dusty rusty ass h*e” and “with them nappy ass poetic justice braids.” Montana was responding to a woman who questioned Montana’s relevance on Twitter. Many people accused Montana’s statements as anti-Black. However, Montana argued, “I love the queens…if you know me, you know what kind of guy I am…my history speak of that…but I’m not going to let nobody say anything to me and I ain’t going to say nothing back.” Montana then goes on to argue that his statements weren’t because he has a Black son. “My ex-wife is Black,” he adds. Charlamagne Tha God supported Montana by saying “You from Africa and you got a pet monkey,” to which Montana responds, “you know what I’m saying, how Black do you want to get?”
Montana and his parents are from the north-African country of Morocco as he detailed in an Instagram post for his new single.

It’s interesting that Montana equates being from Africa to Blackness — as if the continent isn’t huge or isn’t filled with various ethnicities (including the many Arab ethnic groups of north Africa). All these ethnicities are very capable of anti-Blackness, but Montana loves the “queens.”
