This weekend, thousands of Green Day fans in Italy were disappointed when a concert headlined by the band was canceled at the last moment. Green Day’s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, was hospitalized on Saturday “due to illness.”

Obviously, with no lead singer available, the band had to cancel their show for Sunday night. The singer was released from the hospital on Monday, and he flew back to the United States on Tuesday.

Two of Billie’s bandmates, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool, released the short video you see on top of the page. In the video, the two bandmates apologize to the fans in Italy, with Mike saying:

“Billie got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness, and, you know, the doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for him to play today.”

Details of Billie’s illness were never released, but yesterday, TMZ released a video of Billie landing in L.A. In the clip, Billie mouthed that his voice was gone.

Hopefully, the singer’s voice will recover before Green Day’s next scheduled show, which will be on September 21 in Las Vegas.
