The case of Jahessye Shockley, the five-year-old Glendale, Arizona girl who went missing on October 11th, has taken an interesting turn. Police are now focusing on her mother, Jerice Hunter as the number one suspect.

Police arrested Hunter on child abuse charges “directly related” to the girl, and said they don’t believe they’ll find the child alive.

Glendale police Sgt. Brent Coombs said at a news conference on Monday that new information in the past few days led police to serve another search warrant on Hunter’s Glendale apartment and arrest her.

Coombs told reporters:

“I’d like to make it very clear that this is by no means the end to this investigation. Our investigators will continue to work diligently to locate Jhessye. This is just a step down that investigative path towards that final conclusion.”

Hunter’s oldest child, 14 at the time, told police his mother routinely beat the children.
