The image of Mido Macia handcuffed to the back of a police van and dragged to his death is the last image his father Joseph Macia has of his son.

GRAPHIC VIDEO: HORRIFIC! Mido Macia Handcuffed And Dragged By Police Van Till Dead

It was all caught on tape. While the world’s heart ached at the sight of South African man Mido Macia’s body dangling behind a speeding police van, his father’s heart was shattered into pieces. Joseph Macia watched on as his son’s life slipped away at the hands of those employed to protect and serve.

“I was shocked when I heard what happened and saw the video,” Joseph Macis said. “What the cops did was not justice, it was a crime. The cops need to be taught a lesson.”

The police department the officers are stationed to, do not approve of the force used by their officers. An investigation immediately followed the discovery of the crime and nine South African police officers are being brought up on murder charges.

President Jacob Zuma said, “South African police service are required to operate within the confines of the law in executing their duties. The visuals of the incident are horrific, disturbing, and unacceptable. No human being should be treated in that matter.”

Police brutality is not uncommon in Johannesburg. Just last year, an officer killed 34 people when he opened fire on a mine in Marikana. The Police Investigation Directorate has reportedly received 720 new cases for investigation of police brutality resulting in death between April 2011 and March 2012.

Noel Kututwa, the South Africa Director for Amnesty International said, “This appalling incident involving excessive force is the latest in an increasingly disturbing pattern of brutal police conduct in South Africa.”

With an increase of police brutality and the video of Mido Macia exposed to the public, the fear in Johannesburg has increased. A spokesman for the Police Investigation Directorate, Moses Dlamini, took this opportunity to remind the public that they are aware of the injustices they have suffered at the hands of those put in place to protect them, but do not lose hope in those who actually value their profession. “There are many other officers who are dedicated, who uphold the law and arrest criminal all the time,” Dlamini.

The crime rate is increasing as the integrity of the police officers of South Africa decreases. Joseph Macia is one out of possibly hundreds of parents who have lost their child to police brutality. Our condolences to the Macia family and our condolences to those who’ve shared the same fate.
