Since last week’s Democratic National Convention, President Obama has been enjoying a “bounce” in daily tracking polls over his opponent Republican Mitt Romney.

However, some people are taking his boost in the polls with a sign of fear and are flocking to buy more guns – before Obama takes ’em away!

CNBC reports that fear of Obama as a second term president may be the reason trigger-happy gun advocates are flocking to Smith & Wesson and gun maker Sturm, Ruger & Co out of the belief that stricter gun regulation will be enforced. Both gun manufacturers have seen a substantial jump in their sales – Smith & Wesson’s stock boomed last Friday and Sturm, Ruger & Co. have far outshone the number of guns produced this year in comparison to last year.

Background checks for gun sales also surged in 2009 after Obama’s inauguration.

With all the national outburst over unjustified gun violence this year, it’s a shame that people foresee the re-election of Obama as a reason to populate the country with more guns.

There are over 310 million guns in the U.S. today. How many more do we really need?
