The shooting death of a baby girl in Chicago earlier this week still has the city reeling and police frantic as they search for the shooter.

However, police said Tuesday that they are still seeking cooperating witnesses in the crime. They have little to go on and are now offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the gunman.

Police do, however, have surveillance video of what they think is the blue van the gunman used as a getaway vehicle, and they are sure that Jonylah Watkins’ father was the intended target.

He was shot in the buttocks and the right side of his face as he was changing his 6-month-old daughter’s diaper. Baby Jonylah died on Tuesday morning from her wounds after being struck in the thigh, shoulder, lung, liver and bowels.

At her vigil this week, Judy Watkins, the baby’s mother, told reporters that she is urging the shooter to come forward.

“When I find him, he’s going to jail,” Watkins, 19, said.

She also told reporters that she is unaware of the gang affiliations police are attaching to the baby’s father, Jonathan Watkins.

Our thoughts and prayers to the Watkins family.
