It looks like the National Rifle Association (NRA) is on to something here.

While the rest of the nation balks at the idea of following the NRA’s proposed initiative to have armed police or guards in every school in America, a New Jersey suburb doesn’t think the idea is too far-fetched.

Marlboro Township will become the first district in the U.S to have guns in every school starting as early as January 2. The district will put a permanent armed cop in its one kindergarten, five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.

‘We’ve made a collective decision as a town that we need armed security in each of our schools,’ the town’s mayor, Jonathan Hornik, told the New York Post.

‘With this new evil, you can’t just sit there and hope that it doesn’t happen in your town. We must protect our kids,’ he said.

Marlboro Township didn’t make the shift because of the NRA, the mayor said. He pushed the initiative before Wayne LaPierre’s out-of-touch sermon about guns during the NRA press conference. In fact, the Democratic mayor is also considering fortifying school entrances with steel doors and bulletproof glass.

Cost won’t stand in the way of the town’s ‘state-of-the-art’ safety, said the Democrat mayor who supports an assault-weapons ban and stricter gun control in the U.S.

‘This isn’t a luxury item,’ he said. ‘This is a necessity, based on what we saw happen in Connecticut.’

Prison much? We’re all about protecting our children, but what happens to their psyche when they are barricaded inside school buildings with gun-wielding police officers like criminals?
