A 7.6 earthquake, with an epicenter in Guerrero, Mexico, shook Acapulco today; swaying buildings and sending frightened workers and residents into the streets.

The U.S. Geological Survey set the intensity at 7.6 on the Richter scale. Mexico’s National Seismological Survey said the temblor had an epicenter southwest of Ometepec. It was six miles underground according to the geological reports.

According to Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard via his Twitter account, the water system and other “strategic services” were not experiencing problems.

More than 60 homes were damaged near the epicenter in Ometepec but no reports of death or serious injury.
