Police in Queens, N.Y., may finally have some insight into what happened to an autistic boy who has been missing since Oct. 4.

Skeletal human body parts, discovered by a teen girl on the waterfront near Hermon A. MacNeil Park in College Point, are being examined to determine if they belong to Avonte Oquendo.

Clothing found near the skeletal remains is also being examined. A dark-colored pair of size-5½ sneakers were discovered, matching the description of those Avonte, 14, was wearing when he slipped out of his school in Long Island City last year. It was the last time anyone saw the teen boy, who because of his severe autism, is unable to communicate verbally.

“We found the arm and it’s been here a while because it’s skeletal,” a police source said. “But where there’s an arm, there’s a body.”

The Oquendo family attorney has been speaking with the family all night about the recent discovery and says Avonte’s mother Vanessa is skeptical the remains belong to her son.

An investigation is ongoing. A $95,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the whereabouts of the teen.
