It’ll take big shoes for someone to play Martin Luther King Jr. in a movie. And those shoes won’t belong to R&B singer Ne-Yo.

The singer recently turned down the opportunity to play Martin Luther King Jr. in an upcoming movie.

The singer claims that he passed on the opportunity, not because he didn’t want to play the iconic figure, but because he is more focused on his music career and releasing his new forthcoming album, R.E.D.

“They wanted to start shooting at the time my album R.E.D. comes out and wanted me to gain 30 pounds, so I couldn’t do it,” he explained. “I’m kicking myself but acting can’t take the place of my music. Plus, I’ve been killing myself in the gym for months preparing for this album because I wanted a complete makeover.”

Damn, what a shame, that would have been a crazy look!

Ne-Yo’s upcoming album, R.E.D., which stands for Realizing Every Dream, drops on September 18.
