Florida shooter George Zimmerman will turn himself in to authorities if charged in shooting death of Trayvon Martin, defense lawyer says.
According to Reuters, if Zimmerman is charged with the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, he will turn himself into police, this according to his defense lawyers. The grand jury will decide on April 10th whether or not to charge Zimmerman with the killing of Trayvon.
Craig Sonner, Zimmerman's lawyer said:
"If he's charged, he will be arrested and he will turn himself in. However it goes, he's not hiding from the authorities. If he is asked, he will turn himself in. There's not going to be a manhunt or anything like that."
Sonner went on to say that:
"We're preparing for trial. We've done all we can except ask for discovery (evidence-sharing) from the state, which is not available to us yet because he has not been charged."
Zimmerman remains free but in hiding. Special prosecutor Angela Corey has taken over the case and could announce soon whether she intends to charge Zimmerman with a crime.
On Feb 26th, Trayvon was shot and killed by neighborhood watchman, 28-year-old George Zimmerman. Trayvon was returning from a local 7-Eleven after buying a bag of Skittles and iced tea.
He was then spotted by Zimmerman while returning to his father's girlfriend's apartment inside their gated community. Zimmerman called 911, explaining that Trayvon, who was wearing a hoodie at the time, a pair of blue jeans, and red/white sneakers, looked suspicious.
Zimmerman pursued Trayvon even after he was told not to by the 911 dispatcher.
When Zimmerman approached Trayvon, the two got into a scuffle, resulting in Trayvon taking a bullet to the chest at point blank range.
Zimmerman claimed that he shot Trayvon on grounds of self-defense, although Trayvon only had a bag of Skittles and iced tea in his hands.
Since the murder of Trayvon, the entire nation has expressed outrage, from every celebrity tweeting pictures rocking their hoodies, to President Obama saying that if had a son, he'd look like Trayvon.
George Zimmerman must be arrested, as more evidence continues to come forward proving that his claims of self-defense were false.
