UPDATE: Dec 3, 8AM EST

After allegations that Jovan Belcher began arguing with his girlfriend before killing her then himself because she came home late from a Trey Songz concert, the R&B singer took to twitter to speak out.

It is also being reported that the couple’s 3-month-old Zoey will be raised by Jovan’s mother in their native Long Island.

UPDATE: Dec. 2, 9AM EST

Family of the victim, Kasandra Perkins have said there were no signs of danger or problems between the couple that led to the Chiefs player killing his girlfriend and then himself, but some friends have spoken differently of the couple.

One friend said they quarrelled frequently, and added they got into an argument when Kasandra arrived home late after attending a Trey Songz concert the evening before the tragedy took place.

Authorities have not confirmed a possible motive for the murder-suicide.

TMZ reports:

Members of Kasandra’s family tell TMZ … Jovan and Kasandra always seemed to be in love. In fact, we’re told when Kasandra got pregnant, she and Jovan were “ecstatic.” The family says ever since the baby was born in September, the two couldn’t have seemed happier together.

The 22-year-old’s family says they have NO IDEA why the relationship took a tragic turn this morning — when Jovan allegedly shot and killed Kasandra before taking his own life — and news of their deaths was both devastating and unexpected.

And in other news the Kansas City Chiefs said their game scheduled for Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Panthers would still go on even as the franchise tries to come to grips with the awfulness of the death of linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend.

Jovan Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs was involved in a murder-suicide this morning around 8AM where he shot his girlfriend,Kasandra Perkins before turning the gun on himself.

CBS Sports reports:

At 7:50 a.m. police received a call to respond to a shooting at the 5400 block of Crysler Ave., and when they arrived “a lady informed us her daughter had been shot multiple times by her boyfriend,” Snapp said. The victim was rushed to the hospital and died “a short time later,” Snapp said. Snapp said the victim’s mother told police her daughter’s boyfriend was a current Chiefs player.

At 8:10 a.m., Snapp said, police got a call that a party was armed with a gun in the parking lot of the Chiefs’ practice facility at Arrowhead Stadium. Snapp said the description of this suspect matched that of the description of the shooter at the Crysler Ave. location. So at that point, Snapp said, police “kind of knew what was going on.”

Snapp said the black male had a gun to his head and that Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel were also in front of the facility talking to the suspect, and that the player thanked both Pioli and Crennel “for all they had done for him,” before taking his own life.

According to Snapp, the officer on the scene was getting out of his car, “heard a gunshot and found out [the shooter] had taken his own life.”

The Chiefs gathered the players inside Arrowhead Stadium after the incident and at this point plan to have meetings and regular preparation for Sunday’s game, while also trying to cope with the shock of the incident. Belcher had no history of violence according to several sources who knew him, had a strong relationship with Crennel and this incident has come as a surprise to the organization and many who knew Belcher well.
