2009 was a crazy year.  We’ve seen everything from the election of the first black president to a musical icon giving his last performance.  Global Grind has compiled a list of the top news making headlines of 2009. Check it out.

1. The Inauguration of Barack Obama 

On January 20th, 2009, Barack Hussein Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America – the first African-American ever to hold the office of U.S. Commander-in-Chief.  The event was witnessed by well over one million attendees in chilly Washington D.C.

2. The Death Of An American Icon
Michael Jackson, the show-stopping singer whose best-selling albums — including ‘Off the Wall,’ ‘Thriller’ and ‘Bad’ — and electrifying stage presence made him one of the most popular artists of all time, died June 25, 2009, he was 50 years old.

3. 2009 Hero of The Year
Chesley Sullenberger, known as ‘Sully,’ the pilot of the US Airways plane that crashed into the Hudson River is being hailed as a hero for successfully landing the plane without any major injuries or fatalities.
