In response to the Seattle native, James Burns, who is trying to raise $10 million in an online campaign to get the band Weezer to break up and quit making music, Weezer’s own drummer Patrick Wilson has tweeted a counter offer:

‘If they can make it 20, we’ll do the ‘deluxe breakup’!’

Just a couple of days ago, Burns mounted the pledge on fundraising website thepoint.com, calling for the end of the band who, he told local weekly The Stranger, “are everywhere 15 years after they’ve been musically relevant, whether you try to avoid them or not.”

Burns’ Mission Statement:

“If I’m going to be really real, this is a roundabout effort to figure out why the media is still interested in this band despite them not releasing a decent album in over a decade (or I would say, ever.). Even my girlfriend, the world’s biggest Weezer apologist, concedes that they should have packed it in after side one of The Green Album.”
“I have never been a fan of this band. I think that they are pretty much horrible, and always have been. Even in the early 90’s.”
“But this isn’t about me. This is about the Weezer fans. They are our brothers and sisters, our friends, our lovers.”
“Every year, Rivers Cuomo swears that he’s changed, and that their new album is the best thing that he’s done since ‘Pinkerton,’ and what happens? Another pile of crap like ‘Beverly Hills’ or ‘I’m Your Daddy.’”
“This is an abusive relationship, and it needs to stop now.”
“I am tired of my friends being disappointed year after year. I am tired of endless whimsical cutesy album covers and music videos.”
“I’m sick of hearing about whatever this terrible (and yes, even if you like the early stuff, you should be able to admit that they are wretched now) excuse for a band is up to these days.”
“If all 852,000 of you (really?) who bought ‘Pinkerton’ pitch in $12, we will meet our goal.”
“I beg you, Weezer. Take our money and disappear.”

Burns promises that if he fails to reach the full $10 million goal, all contributions will be refunded, except for thepoint.com’s 5% fee. So far, they have raised almost $200. Having barely reached 1%, you’ll have to stay tuned to see if they ever reach their goal…
