The last time New Yorkers saw so much wood in Times Square, they were watching the screens of porno theatres in the ’80s! The wood we saw yesterday, however, wasn’t sexual in nature but OF Nature.

The forest was erected by skin care line Aveeno and Aveeno Naturals in conjunction with the NYC Parks Department in an effort to educate consumers about environmental sustainability and a greener, healthier planet.

This was the first time a forest has been in Times Square since the Dutch landed in New York. Amidst of the hustle and bustle, New Yorkers had the chance to relax and walk on real live, fresh scented earth containing a variety of flora.

At the Pop Up Forest’s Launch yesterday, eco-activist Summer Rayne Oakes, NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe and Mike Marquis from the AVEENO brand announced the donation of hundreds of trees to the NYRP MillionTreesNYC project that will be planted across all boroughs. Students from the Gwendolyn Bland Day Care in the Bronx opened the forest with a special tour from Summer Rayne Oakes and the MillionTreesNYC project.

The forest is now open to the public through 4/8.
