President Barack Obama and his family took in the sights of Brazil’s captial, Rio de Janeiro, embarking on the second day of a Latin American tour. The visit is meant to bring together and celebrate the economic and cultural ties that bind both nations. The President visited the City of God shanty town, which gained fame after a 2002 movie by the same name was nominated for four Oscars.

At a community center in the heart of the jostling slum, the President plunged into the lives of the children there, playing soccer with the kids. He was enthralled while watching a dazzling martial arts display. The President walked out into the streets and waved to the throngs of residents who cheered to him on rooftops and balconies. Dozens of young children pressed up against a chain-link fence trying to get a look.
