Hip-hop band The Roots stirred up lots of controversy as the house band of Jimmy Fallon’s late night talk show Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last week when Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann appeared on the show.

The Roots played Fishbone’s track entitled “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” as Michele Bachmann’s walk-out music, which caused a media uproar.

GlobalGrind caught up with rapper Black Thought of The Roots to ask him about the controversy surrounding Michele Bachmann and any regrets he had surrounding the incident.

Check out the exclusive interview below!

GlobalGrind: There was a lot of controversy surrounding the Fishbone “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” track you all played during Michele Bachmann’s appearance on Jimmy Fallon. Who’s idea was that and how did that all come about?

Black Thought: Questlove comes up with most of the walk-on music and I think with the whole Michele Bachmann situation it was just something that was misconstrued and it wasn’t received as well as he foresaw it in the beginning.  It was the kind of thing that was done and we cannot necessarily take it back so, we issued an apology. That’s it and we moved past it.

If the track wasn’t entitled “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” do you think the backlash wouldn’t have been so harsh?

I think, yeah.

Most people labeled that track specifically to be misogynous.

Yeah, I was hearing talk of misogyny.

So, if you guys could do it all over again…would you do it?

No, I mean if we could do it all over again…we would choose a different song. But you know, what’s done is done. That’s all water under the bridge at this point.
