Burns got his start by throwing college parties in which he’d hire acts like Jay-Z, Diddy and Erick Sermon to emcee for colleges that were off the beaten path.  They became popular because these students wanted to see these acts in their area.  The parties became so popular that Burns started his own promotions company 2620 Music that parlayed into some incredible opportunities for him and thus started his ascent into the glamorous life.

He was given his first opportunity by DJ Clark Kent mentioning that Andre Harrell would be in DC on a Motown talent search taking place on BET.  Burns threw a grand party and invited Andre Harrell who was so impressed that he hired Kenny to work in Motown’s Street Team and Promotions Department and life was lovely for him.  This opportunity gave him the tools he needed to excel as a sought after business mind for marketing.  The documentary goes on as Burns recall that when he reached the place he always wanted to be, he started to notice some of the pitfalls he learned to stay far away from.

The documentary continues as Kenny Burns recalls lavish parties, recording sessions with ODB, doing work with a young and hungry Kanye West and about his exclusive clothing line RyanKenny and its failed merger with Roc-A-Wear.  Burns goes on to tell us more about how cut throat the industry is and how it can take its toll on a person in relation to the suicide of his close friend Def Jam VP Shakir Stewart in 2008, which really took him off guard.

We don’t want to tell you too much about the documentary but it is captivating and inspirational for anyone who’s working hard and hadn’t got their shot yet.  Watch the documentary for yourself and listen as Kenny Burns inspires you to work hard and stay on your toes when it comes to the entertainment business.
