Etta James was laid to rest yesterday in the presence of over 3,000 mourners.

The soul legend was remembered at her service with heart moving performances by Christina Aguilera, who sang a soulful rendition of Etta’s “At Last” and Stevie Wonder who played the electronic keyboard to “Shelter in the Rain.”

The funeral was presided over by Rev. Al Sharpton in southern California where James was raised, and he began the service by reading aloud a note from President Barack Obama, who said that Etta’s talents “transcended genres.”

Hundreds of loyal fans waited for hours to sign registers and to bid farewell to the Blues singer during a public viewing at the Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary.

Etta passed away on January 20th at the age of 73 following a two-year battle with leukemia.

Throughout her career, James overcame a heroin addiction, opened for the Rolling Stones, won six Grammys and was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

May she rest in peace.
