In an era where we’ve employed education, parenting and the media as the entities responsible for shaping our future, Re:Generation offers us a vista beyond what we may know as social revolution.
While Re:Generation covers a wide spectrum of issues, its Musical Project focuses on linking the past to the future through an array of musical categories.
The film backdrops three separate walks of life in an approach to delve into each of their daily lives, simultaneously reflecting today’s youth and young adults, and the influences that perpetuate our culture’s dispassionate advancement of social and political causes. From the inspired musicians working outside corporate America, to a young conservative family about to welcome their second child’s birth, to a group of high school kids from the suburbs searching for their place in the world, their stories are intertwined to weave the knowledge, wisdom, and personal reflections of some of our country’s leading scholars, social activists and media personalities.
Befittingly, GlobalGrind got an intimate preview as we took to Magno Sound & Video for a screening of the Re:Generation Music Project. While the revolution may not be televised, its details will surely be interspersed throughout some of history’s greatest ballads. Every revolution had a soundtrack, so it’s no surprise that DJ Premier, Skrillex, Mark Ronson, The Crystal Method and Pretty Lights were the chosen ones for the monumental collaborative enterprise that forces each disc jockey to look outside their musical discipline to remix, recreate and regenerate five traditional music styles including Classical, Jazz and Country.
