Oakland-born singer Phlo Finister first caught our attention when she was featured in Complex

The 20-year-old singer isn’t new in the game, but she is a new voice on the music front.

She got her start at an industry life when a fashion internship turned into a full time gig. Phlo’s been modeling and styling for Def Jam artists including girl group Electrik Red for the past five years, and now she’s taking a serious shot at music.

Over the years, Phlo has rubbed shoulders with industry elite like Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and she’s good friends with British socialite Peaches Gedolf, along with legendary R&B singer Teena Marie’s daughter Alia Rose

Phlo released her EP Crown Gold in November 2011, but it was her cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang” that had everyone buzzing.

GlobalGrind took the time to check for Phlo, and we must say we’re feeling her flow. Her voice is melodic and mellow, but what really had us in awe is her eerie video “Shades,” which pays homage to the late great singer Aaliyah.

Dressed in a replica outfit of Aaliyah’s Tommy Hilfiger campaign, Phlo takes fans back the ’90s when the world was blessed by Aaliyah’s angelic presence.
